Problem Oriented Policing Unit (POP)

Officers assigned to the Problem-Oriented Policing Unit (“POP”) will employ non-traditional police methods, in collaboration with community partners, to address issues that affect the quality of life for citizens and visitors of the Town of Berkley. The mission of the POP Unit demands its members work collaboratively with community organizations, health and human services, social services, domestic violence resources, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, and similar programs in surrounding areas. There focus is on assistance to domestic violence victims, mental health issues and drug dependancy/ recover.

This unit will focus on addressing issues that affect the quality of life for our citizens and visitors in collaboration with community partners.

Retired Police Officer Dave Sennot has been hired as the POP Coordinator who will work hand in hand with Officer Samantha Maguire. Dave recently retired from Mansfield PD where he was instrumental in starting the police department POP unit.

Ret. Officer Sennot and Officer Maguire will work closely with various community organizations, health and human services, social services, and other programs in the surrounding areas.

The mission of the POP Unit is to work collaboratively to address issues such as domestic violence, overdoses, opioid epidemic impacts, trauma support for individuals with Opioid Use Disorder, prevention strategies, juvenile involvement, and more.

The POP Unit will be responsible for establishing relationships with social service organizations, reviewing case management reports, and following up on top locations and individuals generating calls for service.

The department believes that the POP Unit will make a significant impact in the community by addressing underlying causes of issues and working towards solutions that benefit all residents.
