Community Awareness Bulletin
We are proud to announce that Officer Matt Engstrom of the Berkley Police Department has taken the initiative to investigate and bring forward a proposal for our department to become members of the Massachusetts State Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. Officer Engstrom’s drive and dedication, along with that of the other Officers and Dispatchers of the Berkley Police Department, exemplifies the commitment to identifying problems, finding solutions, and ensuring the safety of our community.
The ICAC task force, comprised of 61 Task Forces and over 5,400 agencies, focuses on investigating and prosecuting internet crimes against children. This program aims to develop an effective response to these crimes and provide training on appropriate internet use for children and teenagers. The training provided by ICAC includes webinars, in-person classroom sessions, and e-learning programs to aid in the investigation and prosecution of these crimes.
Officer Engstrom’s proposal comes with the recognition that this additional duty will require extra time and effort above and beyond his current roles as a School Resource Officer and Patrol Officer. His commitment to the safety of our children should be commended, as we can never do enough to protect our most precious resources.
As technology continues to evolve, programs like ICAC are crucial in combatting crimes against children and ensuring the safety of our community. We are grateful for Officer Engstrom’s dedication and look forward to supporting the ICAC Task Force in any way we can.
