Berkley Police: Problem-Oriented Policing Unit (POP)

Dear Berkley Town residents,

We are excited to announce the creation of a new position within the Berkley Police Department – the Problem-Oriented Policing Unit (POP). This unit will focus on addressing issues that affect the quality of life for our citizens and visitors in collaboration with community partners.

Officer Samantha McGuire has been selected to lead this initiative and will work closely with various community organizations, health and human services, social services, and other programs in the surrounding areas. The mission of the POP Unit is to work collaboratively to address issues such as domestic violence, overdoses, opioid epidemic impacts, trauma support for individuals with Opioid Use Disorder, prevention strategies, juvenile involvement, and more.

Officer McGuire will also be responsible for establishing relationships with social service organizations, reviewing case management reports, and following up on top locations and individuals generating calls for service.

We believe that the POP Unit will make a significant impact in our community by addressing underlying causes of issues and working towards solutions that benefit all residents. We encourage you to support Officer McGuire and the POP Unit in their efforts to create a safer and healthier Berkley.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation and from all of us here at the Berkley Police Department we would like to wish you all a Happy and Safe New Year.
