SEMLEC & SWAT

The Berkley Police Department is proud to be a part of the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC), a vital mutual aid consortium composed of police departments from 30 cities and towns across the region. As part of this collaborative network, we are able to access a broad range of specialized resources and provide assistance when requested by the Berkley Police Department.  This partnership enables us to respond effectively to critical situations, whether it be for search and rescue operations, supporting special events, or tackling major crimes that require additional expertise and manpower.

One of the most significant assets of SEMLEC is its highly skilled SWAT Team, made up of officers from the region. When necessary, the team is deployed to handle high-risk situations, saving lives and ensuring the safety of our communities. The Berkley Police Department, along with our fellow SEMLEC members, is committed to responding swiftly and effectively to protect and serve our residents.

The SEMLEC system allows our officers to seamlessly integrate with resources from neighboring towns and cities, enhancing our ability to address a wide variety of challenges. This mutual aid system not only strengthens the Berkley Police Department’s capacity to respond to emergencies but also provides invaluable support when we are in need of additional specialized resources. Through SEMLEC, we can call upon specialized units, such as K-9 teams, crisis negotiators, peer support team, detective unit, marine unit, search and rescue, and SWAT, ensuring that we are always prepared to address any situation with the expertise and resources it demands.
